NomNote ("we," "our," or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use the NomNote mobile application.

By using NomNote, you agree to the terms of this Privacy Policy.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Account Information: When you sign in with Apple, we receive a unique user identifier and optionally your name and email address.

  • Username: The username you choose when setting up your profile.

  • Recipe Data: Recipes you save, create, import, or share — including ingredients, instructions, photos, and personal notes.

  • Meal Plans: Weekly meal plans and associated shopping lists you create.

  • Ratings & Reviews: Star ratings and personal comments you add to recipes.

  • Photos: Images you take or select from your photo library to add to recipes.

 

Information Automatically Collected

  • Usage Data: Features you use and recipes you interact with, used to improve the app.

  • Device Information: Device type, operating system version, and app version for troubleshooting.

  • Crash Reports: Anonymous crash logs retained for 90 days to improve app stability.

 

How We Use Your Information

We use your information to:

  • Provide core app functionality (saving, organizing, and syncing recipes)

  • Enable recipe sharing and shared collections with other users

  • Generate your shopping lists and meal plans

  • Power AI-assisted recipe parsing and ingredient recognition

  • Improve app features and fix bugs

  • Respond to support requests
     

Data Storage
 

Local Storage

All your recipe data, photos, and meal plans are stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not have access to your recipe collection.

iCloud (Apple CloudKit)

When you enable iCloud sync, your data is stored in your private iCloud account using Apple's CloudKit service. This data is encrypted and governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

What We Can Access

The only data we can access through CloudKit's public database is:

  • Your username

  • Your subscription status

  • Invitations you send or receive for shared collections

 

Third-Party Services

 

OpenAI -

NomNote uses OpenAI's API to power AI recipe parsing and ingredient recognition. When you import a recipe or use the ingredient scanner:

  • The recipe text or image is sent to OpenAI for processing

  • OpenAI does not retain your data beyond the immediate request

  • OpenAI's Privacy Policy applies to this processing

 

Apple Sign In - 

We use Sign in with Apple for authentication. Apple's Privacy Policy governs this process. We only receive the minimum information necessary to create your account.

 

Apple App Store - 

Subscription billing is handled entirely by Apple. We do not store or process your payment information. Apple's Privacy Policy applies.

Data Sharing

 

We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

 

We share data only in the following cases:

  1. Shared Collections: When you invite someone to a shared recipe collection, only that collection's content is visible to the invited user.

  2. AI Processing: Recipe text and images are sent to OpenAI solely to provide the parsing feature.

  3. Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law or to protect our legal rights.

 

Your Rights and Choices

 

You have the right to:

  • Access your data — All your data is visible within the app

  • Delete your data — Delete individual recipes or all data in Profile settings

  • Delete your account — Contact us at support@nomnote.app to permanently delete your account and all associated data

  • Opt out of AI features — All features work without AI parsing; simply do not enter recipes that require AI processing

  • Manage iCloud sync — Turn off iCloud sync at any time in iOS Settings

 

Data Retention

 

Data Type - Retention Period

Recipe data - Until you delete it

Photos - Until you delete them

Account data - Until you delete your account

Crash logs - 90 days

Deleted account data - Permanently removed within 30 days

 

Children's Privacy

 

NomNote is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child, please contact us at support@nomnote.app.

 

Security

 

We implement industry-standard security practices to protect your information. Your data is encrypted in transit and at rest through Apple's CloudKit infrastructure. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.

California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

California residents have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect

  • Request deletion of personal information

  • Opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information)

  • Not be discriminated against for exercising these rights

If you are located in the European Economic Area, you have additional rights including the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your personal data.

  • Contract: To provide the service you've subscribed to

  • Legitimate interests: To improve the app and prevent fraud

  • Consent: For optional features like iCloud sync

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by email. Continued use of NomNote after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
